FINAL PROJECT AND PORTFOLIO
FINAL PROJECT
Main fabric used: Light weight denim (dark blue)
I had chosen light weight denim as it is both versatile and functional. Denim is also known as one of the most durable fabrics known till date.
LOOK 1
Design description:
- 3 cm standing collar light denim jacket
- 41 cm jacket zip
- Pocket at cuff of sleeves for insertion of fidget toy
- Single box-pleat at the back of garment.
Design Construction Process:
Using the pattern that I had drafted I began cutting out the actual fabric (light weight denim) for the final look.
After cutting out the patterns, I began attaching the panels of the garment beginning with the box pleats at the back of the bodice.
Seam used: Flat felled seam (to create a seamless look)
I used the flat felled seam for the box pleat and also to attach the shoulder line for the front and back panel of the bodice.
After attaching the shoulders, I sewed on the 3cm standing collar to the bodice and proceeded with the detachable zip and facing. For this, I just used a straight stitch (no finishing because the facing will cover up the raw edges).
I had then attached the sleeves and overlocked the raw edges of the seam. Later I sewed a straight line to flatten the seam.
Before finishing, I had to attach the cuff of the sleeves. During the visit, they had recommended to add a pocket to remove the stress ball (hygiene purposes). I also lined the inside of the cuffs so that it doesn't come apart when they consistently use it to remove the stress ball.
So, I decided to make a small pocket on the inside of the cuffs to make it a seamless look.
I had completely forgotten to add the zip flap so, I was only able to attach it at the end. After attaching the zip flap, I sewed on the pockets for the front panel.

LOOK 2
Description:
- Loose fitted pants with various pockets
- Elastic waistband
- Fake fly
- Heart-shaped cutouts on pocket of pants.
Design Construction Process:
I started with the cargo pockets of the pants. I decided to add a heart-shaped cut out onto the pockets as it seemed quite plain.
I then attached the cargo pockets to the pants. Sewed the front pockets to the front panel of the pants. Then the back pockets to the back of the pants.
Lastly, I attached all the panels together and sewed on the full elastic waistband and hemmed the pants.

LOOK 3
Design Description:
- Loose fit light weight denim short sleeves hoodie.
- magnetic snap button to hang plushies
- oversized hoodie
- heart-shaped cutout pockets
- Single box pleat to ease movement.
Design Construction Process:
For my 3rd design, I decided to use the same pattern as LOOK 1 but instead of a standing collar, I would add a hoodie and also shorten the sleeves by 25cm. I also added a detachable fidget toy as a feature to the design.

I attached the lining to the facing of the fabric before attaching the detachable zip to the bodice.
I had also sewed in the heart shaped cut out pockets to the bodice before attaching the zip.
Then I sewed in the side seams of the bodice attaching it to the lining.
Before hemming the top, I hand sewed the magnetic snap buttons that I had purchased from SHOPEE.
There were a couple of options that I found for the hanging fidget toys.

LOOK 4
Design Description:
- Loose fit light weight denim short sleeves with inner printed hoodie.
- Calming print used in facing and hoodie lining.
- Oversized hoodie.
- Single box pleat to ease movement.
Design Construction Process:
I had used the same exact pattern as LOOK 2 but only added the owl print for the hoodie lining and also facing of the bodice.
I used the same sewing technique as LOOK 1 & 3 to attach the back yoke and shoulder line (flat-felled seam). After sewing that, I started to work on the hoodie. I used the hoodie lining (owl print) onto the hoodie.
Then proceeded to attach the hoodie to the bodice and continued sewing the facing and sleeves with the same method as LOOK 3. After attaching the zip I hemmed the garment with a 3cm seam allowance.
