Garment Creation Technology 2
FINAL ILLUSTRATION:
Assignment 1 : Final Project Pattern Manipulation (Week 1 - Week 4)
For this assignment we were tasked to make any adjustments required from the previous semester to the final pattern to finalise all the looks. I had a few adjustments to my patterns.
Look 1 :
- Pattern for lining base.
- Leg Warmers (additional accessory).
Look 2 :
- Facing for the pufferjacket bottom of the bodice and ends of sleeves.
- 2nd Layer for flared pants
Look 3:
- Adjust the gap for the back panel of the bodice.
Look 4:
- Make sleeves more flared by using circle pattern for sleeves.
- Add lining for inner skirt.
After retracing all the patterns that I made adjustments to, I neatly laid it on the floor and took pictures to compile for the online submission for this assignment.
Task 02: Final Project Complete Pattern Making For Looks 1 & 3
LOOK 1
Starting with my Look 1. I decided to do a few fabric ssamplings for this designs as I wanted each layer to be a different fabric texture. I did have a base idea of how I wanted the looks to turn out so I looked around for similar colour combos.
These were some of the ideas I had of how I wanted the first look to go. After discussing with Mr.Kit, I decided to go for the centre design where all layers are different fabrics and not a repetition of the previous layers. With this in mind, I decided to look for the fabrics.
As for the blue part of the sketch, I am using recycled denim where I take apart old jeans and make it one piece of fabric then cut out the patterns for it.
As for the other layers, what I had in mind was red & white gingham, lace and also a knitted fabric. Hence, all different textures.
Sample texture layering.
Decided to look for more options for the lace layer as it was really expensive and I would need more than 15 metres of that fabric for my other designs too.
Found a lace design that was suitable for my looks but I forgot to take a picture of the fabric.
I then began constructing the top. Then pinned the layers of fabric to the top to roughly see how it would turn out in the end.
Sewing the final layer of the dress.
Then assembled all the layers together.
I had to remove the lace from the last layer and just use the denim as it looked better visually like this. Besides that, the fit at the ruched section was really bulky as I did not take into account the thickness of the fabrics when making the layers. I attached all layers at the ruched part making it very thick and bulky. I was not satisfied with the fit and consulted with Mr. Brian.
He suggested to unpick the denim from the top and instead attch a lining fabric making the denim shorter and attaching it to the lining.
I made all the adjustments necessary for that and started with the construction of the leg warmers.
Construction of leg warmers.
Hemming all the layers for the dress.
FINAL OUTCOME:
I started with unpicking as many denim jeans as possible for this look as 90% of the look is denim. After unpicking I sewed it into a piece of fabric making it easier to cut out the pattern pieces. Then individually sewed each panel. Attaching each panel together by hand sewing it using the 'scar stitch'.
Base of the jacket finished.
I had then moved on to the skirt accessory and did the same for it as I did with the top.

I had then sewed the basic circle skirt to finish off the look.
FINAL OUTCOME:
After the jury, I had to make certain adjustments to my sketches as it did not really match the same fit as my outcome of the designs.
BEFORE
Task 03: Final Project Complete Pattern Making For Looks 2 & 4
LOOK 2
Unpicked a bunch of denim so I dont have to do it again. :)
I then cut out all the pattern pieces required for both Look 2 And 4.
As for my Look 2, I started with the construction of the puffer jacket.
Making pocket holes to insert the cotton in the puffer jacket and adding the base layer of padding to maintain the structure of the jacket.
Checking the fit for the puffer jacket. I had then later on finished up the lining with facing of the jacket.
I had then started working on the pants layers. Sewing each layer separately with the lining then attaching it all together at the end.
Sewing the zip and waistband of the pants.
Assembling the third layer of the pants.
Assembling the third layer for the pants.
Started working on the base top for Look 2.
Final fit.

LOOK 4
As for look 4 I did not manage to record much of the progress.
I started with the top base. This look was really simple to sew as it was a simple design but with different layered textures. The ony tedious part was unpicking the denim as it took up 90% of my time for this project and having to reassemble it to make a flat fabric.
After sewing the base of the top, I attached the tuered sleeves seperately before closing the lining. This part was also a little difficult as it kept bulking at the shoulder but I pressed it for a long time to lose the wrinkles to make it look cleaner.
I had then sewed the skirt. I had to add 2 more layers for the flared panel of the skirt as it was see through and I was also advised that it would add more volume to the skirt.

FURTHER ADJUSTMENTS TO BE MADE AFTER FINAL JURY:
- topstitch around neckline and armhole for Look 1 & Look 4.
- Fix certain parts of the bias tape for the train of Look 4.
